Bio: John "Garick" Chamberlin is a serving Lt Colonel in the US Air Force and an Assistant Professor of Military and Strategic Studies in the Department of Airpower at the Air Command and Staff College, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He holds a PhD in history from Purdue University. His current book project, tentatively titled [I]American Tars in Barbary: Realizing American Independence on the World Stage, 1783-1816[/I], explores the "Barbary Wars" from an international law and diplomacy standpoint and argues that American efforts in dealing with North African privateering were aimed as much at joining the European international system as at protecting American trade. |
