Bio: I am a scholar of Kabbalah, thematically working on the popularization of Jewish mysticism in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. More specifically, I am interested in how technological shifts in society such as book printing impact the ways people read, and the ways in which they created and disseminated knowledge. At the same time, I also focus on literary genres as modalities through which new kabbalistic ideas were transmitted. More recently, I have shifted my scholarly focus to manuscripts of early modern Jewish recipes, written in East-Central Europe, probing questions of Jewish magic, medicine, science, and Kabbalah, especially as these topics relate to women and the female body. |
