Bio: Mariah Gruner is a PhD candidate in American Studies at Boston University, focusing on gender and material culture. Her dissertation, "'...Has Ever Been the Appropriate Occupation of Woman': Crafting Femininity in American Women's Decorative Needlework, 1820 to 1920," considers the contours of the "first wave" of American women's political and cultural activism- property rights, education, abolition of slavery, and suffrage- through the lens of decorative needlework. She has an interest in public history and the public humanities and works with the Boston University Public Humanities Undergraduate Fellowship Program. |
