Bio: Biography Mohammad Amjad received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside in 1986 and continued his education by doing Post-doctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley and UCLA. He has taught in California, New York, and Iran. While in Iran, he taught at various universities including Imam Sadegh University, Tarbyat Mdarres University and Azad University of Iran. His superb pedagogic methods granted him Azad University’s Outstanding Professor of the year in 2008. Professor Amjad is broadly trained in Political Science, but his areas of expertise include Comparative Politics, Development, Iran, Middle East, Iranian Nuclear Diplomacy, Islamic Movements, and US-Iranian Relations. Professor Amjad has published more than 40 books, research papers and journal articles in English and Persian. His book, Iran from Royal Dictatorship to Theocracy (Greenwood Press, 1989) was nominated as “one of the outstanding academic books of 1989” by Choice magazine. This book has been translated into Persian by BAZ Press in 2000. Professor Amjad has also held various academic administrative positions including: Director, Center for Middle East Studies (College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY, 1989-1991), Director, International Scientific Exchange Program (School of International Relations, Tehran, Iran, 1999-2000), Chair, Department of International Relations (Azad University of Iran, Central Campus, 2001-2002), Director, Azad University’s Research Office (Central Tehran Campus, 2002-2003), Azad University’s Political Science Promotion and Tenure Committee (covering all 350 Azad University Campuses, 2005-2008), and Dean, College of Law and Political Science (Azad University of Iran, Science and Research Campus, 2005-2008). Professor Amjad has been sponsored by the Scholars at Risk Network and the Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund. He has taught at Arcadia University, Glenside, Pennsylvania, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and University of California Irvine, since his return to the United States. Professor Amjad is currently working on a major manuscript on Islamic Radicalism and Islamic Reformism. |
