Bio: I'm an American historian with a focus on California, social and cultural history in the modern era, and African American history, broadly. My current project is a book about Los Angeles rap in the Reagan Era. My other published works include an essay on immigrant folk music in the California Central Valley and an article about L.A.'s early mobile DJ crews. I've written book reviews in the Journal of American Culture and the American Studies Journal, and I've published a set of articles on California immigrant history, including an oral history-based study of the Portuguese in Northern California. |
