Bio: My background, before becoming an historian, was in English Literature. I received a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Leeds in 1995 and later obtained a PGCE in secondary English teaching (11 to 18) at the University of York in 2000. After a number of years living and working in Hong Kong, I returned to the United Kingdom. I recently completed a PhD at The University of Derby entitled: 'Sense and Sentimentality: The Soldier-Horse Relationship in The Great War'. My research interests lie in mythologisation, how the past is represented in the art, media and literature, the representation of animals, and in human-animal relationships. I am particularly interested in the human-horse relationship and in how it has been used and abused in our more recent history. |
