Bio: Steven J. Lipson is a sixth-year Ph.D. student at Vanderbilt University focusing on 20th century U.S. social and political history, with particular interests in the history of education, religious history, and African-American history. His dissertation will look at elementary and secondary religious schooling in post-1960s America with an emphasis on Christian day schools and Islamic schools. Prior to returning to academia, Steve worked at the American Institutes for Research, an education policy research organization in Washington, DC. A Pittsburgh native, Steve previously held a research internship at the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. Steve graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in History and Government from the College of William and Mary and was admitted there into Phi Beta Kappa. He holds an M.A. in U.S. History from the Catholic University of America and an M.A. in History from Vanderbilt University. Gary Gerstle and Sarah Igo are his advisers. |
