Bio: Berin Golonu is a doctoral candidate in the Visual and Cultural Studies program at the University of Rochester. Her research interests include Middle Eastern contemporary art, late Ottoman landscape painting, art and environmentalism in developing Asian countries, Orientalism, and photographic histories of the Middle East. Golonu's feature articles and reviews have appeared in numerous national and international arts publications, including Afterimage, Aperture, Art in America, Art on Paper, Art Papers, Contemporary, frieze, Sculpture, Third Text, and Zing Magazine, among others. Recent grants and fellowships include a teaching fellowship from the Susan B. Anthony Institute of Gender and Women's studies (Fall 2012), a Getty Library Research Grant (Summer 2013), and a dissertation fellowship from the Darat Al Funun Foundation (2013/2014). |
