Bio: Would you like to join a rapidly growing, department at the University of Wisconsin –La Crosse? The Department of Ethnic and Racial Studies (ERS) is seeking an interdisciplinary scholar to fill a permanent, full time teaching staff position beginning August 25, 2014. We are primarily interested in someone whose research and teaching is focused on US Latino/a Studies, but will also consider individuals whose research and teaching focus on Asian American Studies. Although this is not a tenure-track position, there will be opportunities for our new department member (should they so desire) to continue their scholarly work in addition to teaching. The teaching load is 4/4 with three sections of Introduction to Ethnic and Racial Studies and one additional course. Applications are encouraged from individuals with degrees in the social sciences or humanities. The successful candidate must have completed the PhD before beginning the position. ERS is currently a general interdisciplinary minor in the College of Liberal Studies. We are in the process of preparing a proposal to add a major to our offerings. Our current faculty are trained in Cultural Anthropology, History, and Social Psychology. ERS partners with many UW-L departments – including Sociology and Archaeology, Psychology, English, Communication Studies, History, and Women’s Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Candidates must be committed to excelling in undergraduate teaching; assisting in the development of courses and curricula in their area of expertise; and continuing or developing a line of research and scholarship in their own area of expertise which can include undergraduate researchers. Candidates with diverse backgrounds and/or experience working with diverse populations and an interest in helping us build upon the department’s commitment to diversity (broadly defined) in its faculty, staff, and students, are particularly encouraged to apply.
