Bio: Grit Liebscher (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin) is an Associate Professor of German Applied Linguistics in the department of Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo, Canada. She uses interactional sociolinguistics and conversation analysis to address questions of language and identity, multilingualism within and outside the foreign language classroom, and intercultural communication. She has published on code-switching in the classroom, the use of laughter and the display of knowledge in interaction, and language attitudes. She has co-edited (with a team of scholars from the University of Waterloo) a book on Germans in the North American diaspora. Most recently, she co-authored a book with Jennifer Dailey-O'Cain entitled Language, Space, and Identity in Migration. |
