Bio: Katherine Hermes is professor of history at Central Connecticut State University. She received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1992 and her Ph.D. in history from Yale University in 1995. She teaches Anglo-American Legal and Constitutional History, The Atlantic World, Pacific Exploration, and Native American History. She is co-editor with Karen Ritzenhoff of the book _Sex and Sexuality in a Feminist World_ (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2009), in which she published an essay, “Getting Nailed: Re-inventing the European-Pacific Encounter in the Age of Global Capital,” and the author of several essays, including “The Law of Native Americans, to 1815” in Christopher Tomlins and Michael Grossberg, eds., _The Cambridge History of Law in America_ (Cambridge University Press, 2008), and, with Alexandra Maravel, “Native American Women’s Use of Connecticut’s Colonial Courts,” in Barbara Brookes and Dorothy Page, eds., _Communities of Women: Historical Perspectives_ (University of Otago Press, 2002). She is also the editor of two digital archives, The American Revolution, Thomson-Gale Publishing, 2008 and Making of Modern Law: Primary Sources, Cengage, 2010. |
