Bio: James Kates is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has a BA in journalism from Michigan State University; an MA in American history from the University of Michigan; and a PhD in mass communication (history emphasis) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the author of "Planning a Wilderness: Regenerating the Great Lakes Cutover Region" (University of Minnesota Press, 2001). Besides UW-Whitewater, he has taught at Michigan State University, Marquette University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has 25 years of experience as an editor in print media, including work for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and The Philadelphia Inquirer. |
