Bio: Born and raised in southern Ohio, I attended Ohio State University where I received BAs in history and philosophy. I completed my MA in history at Northern Illinois University and received my Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2014. I am currently a lecturer in the history department at Middle Tennessee State University where I teach the US surveys. I am interested in innovative pedagogies, especially student-driven pedagogies like Reacting to the Past, which I use my courses. I am an early Americanist, specializing in Native American history and settler colonialism. My research examines the history of Ohio Country and draws on intellectual history and environmental history as well as frontier history and the history of settler colonialism. My book manuscript, “From Ohi-yo to Ohio: Conceptual Landscapes and the Transformation of Ohio Country, 1727-1850,” is under contract with the University of Nebraska Press. I have recently become the book review editor for H-Early America, so if you are interested in possibly reviewing books for the network, feel free to send me a CV and brief cover letter. |
