Bio: My academic trajectory was shaped by a semester-long study abroad trip to Russia and a ten-month stint teaching English. Conversations with my students led me to study socialist nostalgia, and an internship with an organization that works to prevent human trafficking informed my understanding of the interactions between state and civil society; affluence and influence; and exploitation and hope in post-Soviet society. Other research interests include poetics and performance, post-Soviet Central Asia, and speech register formation. I have conducted fieldwork in rural Siberia and among Russophone immigrants in the Midwestern United States. |
