Bio: I am a FQRSC postdoctoral fellow with the School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. My research is interdisciplinary, drawing upon the fields of oral history, anthropology, international humanitarian law and the forensic sciences. My current project "Among the Anonymous Dead: Investigation, Identification and Repatriation in the Aftermath of the Rwandan and Bosnian Genocides" focuses on the impact of international forensic investigations on local communities in Rwanda and Bosnia-Hercegovina. Prior to this, I completed my doctoral dissertation "Inscribed Intent: Genocidal Symbolic Violence and Social Death in the Aftermath of the Genocides in Rwanda and Bosnia-Hercegovina" under the supervision of Frank Chalk (History), Steven High (Oral History), Erica Lehrer (Anthropology) and Mark Skinner (Forensic Archaeology) in the Interdisciplinary Humanities PhD Program at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. My dissertation explored how survivors, ex-combatants and perpetrators of the genocides in Rwanda and Bosnia-Hercegovina make sense of the genocidal symbolic violence they experienced. In addition to my postdoctoral project, I am currently working on turning my dissertation into a manuscript. |
