Bio: I earned my BA in Music and History from Lewis and Clark College in 1987, and today I am a professional historian for the Louisiana State Museum with a strong interest in Louisiana music history. I received my Ph D in US History from Tulane University in 1999, and published my first book _Victory at Home: Manpower and Race in the American South during World War II, 1939-1945_, which focuses on the issue of race, labor and equal rights in the South as the US mobilized for war. Over the past 8 years, I have moved more into the social history of jazz in the American South, which will be the subject of my next book. In terms of H-TAH, I am chair of TAH Louisiana, and have tried to encourage TAH grants in the state to network and exchange ideas freely. My involvement with TAH grants has led me to give numerous presentations on TAH Louisiana's efforts to create a state network. While I am not currently teaching, I have taught numerous courses at Tulane from 1996-2005, and have taken time off to focus more on family raising. The courses included the Roosevelt Era, American West, Labor History, and US History surveys. |
