Coon <mcoon@lander.edu> Lander University-Greenwood South Carolina I am currently involved in staging the first commercially viable work of North Carolina playwright Louisa Smith (Lula) Vollmer at the Seminar at the Museum for the National Society for the Preservation of Tent, Folk, and Repertoire Theatre in Mt. Pleasant Iowa on April 21, 2007. The play is a short vaudeville play titled JULE: THE MOONSHINER'S DAUGHTER; it is an investigation of a young woman, rasied by her father and the relgious-cultural influences she experiences growing up in Appalachia. The project involves casting the show from the undergraduate student body at Lander University, combining it with an academic presentation by the cast and crew to a body of theatre historians, and performing the show to an open audience of professionals, troupers, academics and townspeople. I am seeking a publisher for an annotated anthology of the plays by Lula Vollmer that constitutes the body of her work and its relationship to the people of the North Carolina mountains. |
