Bio: Since 2007 I have been Lecturer in American History at the University of Edinburgh. I earned my PhD and MA from the history department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and my BA in American Studies from Lancaster University. My major research interests are in the American Civil War era (especially the white South) and nationalism. I am currently working on a book manuscript, _Shifting Grounds of Nationhood: The American South, 1846-1865_, based on my PhD dissertation. I have published (or had accepted for publication) articles on history and southern nationalism before the Civil War; celebrations of the Fourth of July in the Civil War-era white South; and the transatlantic context of southern nationalism. My book reviews have appeared in journals such as _The Journal of Southern History_, _Law and History Review_, and _H-Net Reviews_, and I have presented my research at a range of conferences. |
