Bio: Judith Preissle is the 2001 Distinguished Aderhold Professor for the College of Education at the the University of Georgia where she has taught since 1975. Her areas of expertise are the anthropology of education and qualitative research design; recently she has been studying ethics and the philosophy of social science. She is the coauthor of Ethnography and Qualitative Design in Educational Research (1984, 1993), translated into Spanish in 1988, and coeditor of The Handbook of Qualitative Research in Education (1992). Her most recent book, coauthored with Xue Lan Rong, is Educating Immigrant Students (1998). In addition to numerous book chapters, she has authored articles appearing in such journals as the American Educational Research Journal, the Anthropology of Education Quarterly, the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, the Review of Educational Research, and The Elementary School Journal. Since 1991 she has been listowner of QUALRS-L (Qualitative Research for the Human Sciences), the oldest such forum online, and she has recently taken on the webmastering for QualPage, a webpage on qualitative research. She founded the qualitative research program at UGA that now offers a graduate certificate program, and she has also served a term as coeditor of the “Research News and Comment” section of Educational Researcher. She shares two miniature schnauzers and two Chinese pugs with a computer network manager at UGA. All five share her interest in philosophical quandaries. |
