Job Posting Publication and Content: Any job announcement submitted to the H-Net Job Guide is intended for public distribution and will be available to all users of the H-Net Job Guide web site. Postings are permanently archived and accessible via searches, past their individual closing dates. H-Net is not responsible for any use of information other than the display on the H-Net web site. H-Net Job Guide reserves the right to edit any submission for content and length. The person or institution submitting the job announcement will be notified of any editing before the announcement is posted to the site. All submissions must be approved by H-Net staff prior to publication.
Personal Information: Any contact information collected, including email addresses, telephone numbers, physical addresses, and contact persons will be kept strictly confidential. The information will only be shared with third parties who perform tasks required to complete the purchase transaction.
Financial Information: H-Net collects billing and credit card information solely for the purpose of charging for services rendered. The information will only be shared with third parties who perform tasks required to complete the purchase transaction. H-Net Job Guide provides secure transmission for online credit card transactions, does not retain card numbers or card security codes, and is in compliance with the data security standards of the payment card industry.

We use aggregate data to track use and improve services. We do not use IP address logs to track individual sessions or individual behavior on our site.
Cookies: The H-Net Job Guide uses cookies to maintain your session while you are logged in. These session cookies expire after four hours, or when you close your browser.
Data Integrity and Security: To prevent unauthorized submissions, maintain submission accuracy, and ensure security of financial information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to protect H-Net Job Guide services and information.
Termination or Modifications: Job announcements may be modified or terminated at any time. While a job notice may be terminated by changing the closing date, once it has been accepted and posted to the web site, it will remain in the database indefinitely and available to users as part of the H-Net Job Guide archive. A job announcement once accepted cannot be deleted from the archive.
Job Announcement Posting Policy
Submissions made to the H-Net Job Guide are automatically sent to H-Net staff. On approval, the submissions will be published. The process will be completed within three business days (often within a day). During peak job search periods (August through November) the process may take up to five business days to complete. H-Net staff reserve the right to edit job announcements for content and length, and to ask for changes and clarifications. H-Net staff will clear all edits with the contact person or institution before posting.
The H-Net Job Guide is committed to the principle of equal opportunity for all prospective employees. In accordance with United States laws governing hiring practices, H-Net Job Guide does not publish job notices that discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or status as a disabled or Vietnam-era Veteran (except in those cases where federal law allows specific preferences in hiring). Exceptions are made for private religious institutions that require church membership or practice of specific religious beliefs as a requirement for hiring. Postings for jobs outside the United States cannot violate this discrimination policy but may include a statement informing applicants that there may be additional hiring or screening requirements.
Changes to Published Announcements
Job notices posted on the H-Net Job Guide can be canceled at any time by logging in to the system and changing the post's closing date. Closed jobs remain in the H-Net database indefinitely and will be publicly accessible to users as part of the H-Net Job Guide Archive.
Once a job announcement has been accepted and posted to the H-Net Job Guide, modifications may be made to all parts of it except for the institution and posting date fields. If you modify the notice, the older version will remain online until an H-Net staff member approves the changes. Once approved the new, modified version will appear online.
You may also modify your payment method at any time by logging into the system, locating the notice, clicking "cancel" under Transaction History, then "cancel payment." Click "new transaction" to process another payment.
Job announcements posted to the H-Net Job Guide must have a specified closing date. The default closing date when creating a new job posting is 90 days from the current date. If you need to change the closing date, log into the system, locate the post, and change the date.
Payments and Fees
Delinquent Payments: If an organization or department has an outstanding balance for more than 90 days we will no longer accept job postings from that agency until we receive the balance on the account or suitable arrangements for payment have been made.
For check payments, every 30 days you will receive automatic e-mail payment reminders (first reminder goes out 30 days after the submission date) until payment is due. Once we receive payment the reminders will stop. If the payment becomes delinquent (90 days overdue) you will receive a notice every 30 days for the next 6 months. Once we have received payment the notices will stop.
H-Net staff reserve the right to reject any job announcement for any reason consistent with our delinquent payment policy. Payment for a rejected posting will not be processed.
H-Net reserves the right to alter its posting fee at any time without notice. H-Net will make a reasonable effort to comply with requests for paper copies of receipts, invoices, or advertisements, but reserves the right to assess additional fees to cover costs related to such requests.
Job posters may apply to waive the $140 (US dollars) charge, but these requests are granted on a very limited case-by-case basis. Waivers are not granted in cases where the posting organization lacks an advertising budget or when sudden openings occur because of retirements, reassignments, resignations, or other staffing changes. The Job Guide is a nonprofit service to the profession; H-Net depends upon its revenues to support its many services. The fee waiver is available in order to assist organizations suffering from severe physical or material hardships (such as natural disasters) or similar kinds of emergencies.
Your invoice will be emailed to you upon completion of the Job Guide submission process. If you need a another copy of this invoice log into the Jobs Management system and click on 'My Jobs'. Select the job in question and click on the 'view invoice' link.
Extras
Want to include a logo?: Job posters may include a logo with their posting for a nominal fee of $40 (US dollars). H-Net reserves the right to remove any logos it deems inappropriate. To get the best display on your page make sure your logo is appropriately sized (images wider than 500 pixels will be scaled down proportionally) and uploaded in JPEG, GIF, or PNG format.
Want greater visibility?: Job posters may also designate a post as a featured announcement for an additional fee of $90 (US dollars). All of the pages on the public section of the Job Guide (except individual job postings) will display a small number of featured notices selected from the entire pool of currently active featured announcements. This selection refreshes every few minutes. Featured notices will receive special mention on our social media outlets (Twitter and Facebook).
Ad agency discounts: H-Net grants a 15% discount to advertising agencies that are bona fide members of the Standard Directory of Advertising Agencies or are members of recognized agency associations. H-Net reserves the right to not process this discount for illegitimate agencies.
Refunds
Refunds will be considered under the following circumstances:
- a technical error with our servers
- we have not published the announcement within two weeks of the submission date. This does not include notices that were not posted because payment information was not selected at the time of submission.
